Program Overview

The Electrician Assistant Program at Kapawe’no College is designed to provide participants with the foundational skills and knowledge necessary to begin a career in the electrical trade. Serving as a pre-apprenticeship program, this course prepares students for entry-level positions and future apprenticeships. Through a combination of theoretical instruction and hands-on practice, trainees will develop a solid understanding of electrical operations, safety protocols, and industry best practices.

Course Modules Outline

Introduction & Theory

  • Introduction to the electrical industry and its career opportunities.
  • Overview of an Electrician Assistant’s roles and responsibilities.

 

Safety Considerations & Equipment Maintenance

  • Comprehensive safety protocols, including industry standards for electrical safety.
  • Importance of maintaining Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and performing daily equipment checks.

 

Practical Training – Electrician Basics

  • Understanding controls and operations with hands-on experience in basic electrical mechanisms.
  • Engaging in practical exercises simulating real-world electrical scenarios.

 

Industry Protocols for Electricians

  • Learning industry best practices, with a focus on safety, efficiency, and professionalism.
  • Developing site management skills for planning, executing, and maintaining organized work environments.

 

Evaluation, Certification, and Employment Pathways

  • The 17-week “Hard Skills” (hands-on training) program is complemented by a 35-week “Soft Skills” (academic learning) component, customized to meet each participant’s personal and educational goals.
